this morning is first lady michelle obama's visit to baltimore. she spoke to a sold out crowd at a fund-raising event at morgan state university. tv cameras weren't allowed inside that venue but those who paid to get in said the first lady got a rock star reception. >> it was beyond anything i have ever heard. i never heard anyone walk on a stage and get such an eruption of powerful love. >> some of the 2,000 supporters who packed the murphy fine arts center describe a loud and long explosion of cheers as first lady michelle obama took the stage. >> it did really erupt. she hardly could get started talking and people just wouldn't even let her stop. >> only print journalists were allowed inside, no tv cameras allowed, but supporters shared some pictures as they explained the consistent themes of the first lady's speech. most say she focussed a lot of education and health care. >> talking about students receiving aid and grants. i'm a graduating senior. i go to school on federal aid. if it wasn't for the bills that barack obama has passed, i would be unable to attend. so that was a highl

breaking news from baltimore this morning where several media outlets are reporting that former ravens owner art modell has died. he had been hospitalized yesterday at johns hopkins for organ failure. modell purchased the cleveland browns in 1961 and ended up moving the team to baltimore in 1996. that move made him a hero in charm city, but made him hated back in cleveland. the 87-year-old modell still held a 1% stake in the raifns. he served as -- ravens. he served as president of the nfl in the 1960s, overseeing the first negotiations of contracts with players and he was key in getting monday night football games on tv. >> what a huge name in our area. >> football. >> yeah, football. >>> it is 7:16. gwent is here to talk about this thursday weather. >> hot and sticky, you're going to want to be prepared, pump up the ac today. drink lots of water, that's the key thing in terms of our forecast. let's begin with the fox 5 accuweather radar and we'll show you what's going on because we have some rain that's developed. we're not talking a total washout here, folks, but some of you will c

who brought the ravens to baltimore and was a key insider in the national football league, died this morning. art modell was 87. modell was belough in baltimore, but cursed in cleveland in 1996, when he moved the franchise to charm city, a move some say kept him from getting into the pro football hall of fame. during the four decades, he helped negotiate lucrative contracts with tv networks. his wife patricia died last year and his sons david and john were at his side when he died. >>> in just a matter of hours, the fairfax county school board will vote on a new committee, which could be influential when it comes to changes in the way students are disciplined. the board is creating a panel to streamline students' rights and responsibilities. the manual, that is, which includes disciplinary policies. tonight they will vote on the makeup of that 29-person committee. it would be comprised the -- and this is causing some concern among parents who fear their voices won't be heard if school officials outnumber them on the panel. >> i'd like to see experts who know about student discip

and approaching new york city, philadelphia, baltimore and d.c. definitely an umbrella day. you step outside you know it's going to pour at some portion of the day. still have breaks of sun. not going to rain all day long. when the sun comes out it will be warm. temperatures in the mid 80s with high humidity and thunderstorms rolling through areas along the border of iowa and illinois. looks like chicago that's going to stay to your west, that's good. no air travel problems out of chicago this morning. but later today, numerous thunderstorms from st. louis to chicago all the way through the southeast. notice how hot we are in dallas, 102 today. yesterday you were 103. and as far as charlotte goes, we had rainfall and thunderstorms last night. i think we're going to do it again this afternoon into the evening. the big forecast is for thursday night. the president will be trying to speak outdoors at bank of america stadium. they're trying to say they're going to do it rain or shine. the biggest fear any lightning with the thunderstorms. but at 10:30 at night hopefully all that should be dying off

, that was thrilling. my father had been mayor of baltimore. one of the leaders of the kennedy campaign in maryland. the first night we got there, it was the dinner for him. we all saw the president, the family very differently. after he made his speech at the stadium, which was stark, no one ever did that, fabulous seats. my father want to go to a famous restaurant in los angeles. we did. my father said this is really an expensive restaurant, how did you choose the restaurant. compared to baltimore, it was very expensive. i remember him not complaining, but making the point when the door opened and here comes senator kennedy. he came right over, what did you think of the speech? ask me what i thought. all of a sudden the prices came way down. >> suddenly it was not worth it. take a one of the most memorable single images of this convention ran on the front of "the new york time" was you with the women members of the house. but was a like to stand up there? >> it was pretty exciting. that was only half of those we have in the house. it was pretty exciting because of the connection. it was so exciti

after watching a baseball game in baltimore. he was thrown 30 feet in the air on impact and scraped along another 20 feet on the pavement after he hit the ground. i ran to his side and held him and called his name, but he was limp and still, without breath or pulse. his eyes were open with the empty stare of death, and we prayed, the two of us, there in the gutter, with only my voice. his injuries, inside and out, were massive, and for terrible days he lingered between life and death. tipper and i spent the next thirty days and nights at his bedside. our family was lifted and healed, in no small measure by the love, compassion and prayers of thousands of people, most of whom we never even knew. albert is plenty brave and strong, and with the support of three wonderful sisters-- karenna, kristin, and sarah-- and two loving parents who helped him with his exercises every morning and prayed for him every night, he pulled through. and now, thank god, he has fully recovered, and he runs and plays and torments his older sisters like any little boy.
